Hoof trimming photo
The Friday photo this week – trimming in the paddock.
I always preferred the 12″ nippers, probably because that’s what I grew up using. They’re easier to use and less handle to stick into the horse! I understand most farriers prefer 14 or 15″ nippers but I don’t know why….

Well, for starters, the cutting face is wider on the bigger nippers. Plus, over here, we get dry hooves, which I understand is NOT an issue in NZ. We need all the leverage we can get in some places. I kept having to readjust my reins several times a day this summer.
Also, I’m not a nine year old girl, so I by big people tools.
Though the 12 inch nippers are amazing on ponies and donkeys. Love them (and love 14 inch for the Clyde crosses too:)
